HSK 7–9 is the tier that HSK 3.0 added on top of the old ceiling. Where old HSK 6 was the summit, there is now a whole advanced division for near-native ability.
They are the new advanced tier of HSK 3.0. Bands 7, 8 and 9 share a single exam and a vocabulary pool of about 11,092 words; your band (7, 8 or 9) is decided by your score in that one exam.
Academic candidates (Master's/PhD in Chinese), professional translators, and anyone proving near-native proficiency. For undergraduate study or everyday use, bands 4–6 are usually enough.
HSK 7–9 vocabulary and tests are on the roadmap (coming soon). HSKace tracks HSK 3.0 early, so it will add them soon — meanwhile, build a solid base at bands 4–6.
