The First HSK 3.0 Exam Is December 13, 2026, Not July 18

CTI announced on September 9, 2026 that the first official HSK 3.0 sitting is Sunday, December 13, 2026. The July 18, 2026 sitting was a regular sitting with the HSKK, not an HSK 3.0 exam.

According to CTI's 2026 calendar, as of October 2026 there are three more HSK 1–6 sittings this year: October 17, November 7 and December 13, 2026, each offered on paper and on computer. Not every centre runs every sitting, so ask yours. December 13 is the first official HSK 3.0 sitting. Registration typically closes 2–4 weeks before test day.

The measuring stick changed rather than pure difficulty: under the "three stages, nine bands" framework, vocabulary rises sharply at the lower bands (Band 1 from 150 to 300 words, Band 4 from 1,200 to 2,000) but only slightly at Band 6 (5,000 to 5,400), all four skills are weighted more evenly, and a new advanced band 7–9 exists — but level equivalences shift accordingly.

Yes. Certificates already earned keep their validity; most universities and employers accept scores from roughly the past two years. The change affects people taking the exam from the December 13, 2026 sitting onward.
