Handwriting Chinese Without Losing Your Mind
Chinese handwriting is the part of HSK prep that scares off the most adult learners. Looking at the 600-word HSK 3 list, or the 1,200-word HSK 4 list, and being told you should handwrite every character a hundred times is enough to make most people quit.
Here is the more practical take: you do not need to handwrite all of them. You need to be strategic about which ones, and consistent about a small daily drill.
The selectivity rule
Native Chinese speakers do not write all 2,600 or so HSK characters by hand every day. They write a few hundred regularly and recognize the rest. In the smartphone era, even those few hundred are mostly typed via pinyin.
